Training Philosophy
our mission
To support the relationship we build with our dogs through the use of humane training techniques grounded in the science of learning and modern psychology.
Much has been said and written about the value that dogs bring to our lives. Although the history of co-existence amongst our species offers the most direct evidence of how they enrich our lives for the better, one need only find themselves momentarily sitting with their dog in silence to feel what a relationship with dogs has to offer – companionship, service, therapy, and perhaps even spiritual realization. Given such great potential and possibility, a vision that puts the value of the relationship at its core is vital. As demonstrated in the tutorials we create, we embrace the principles of learning that govern the behavior of all living beings. It has been said that dogs have much to teach us about ourselves. But in working with our dogs we also face a real opportunity to become the kind of partners we wish to be.
Our content contains ideas for training that are derived from our current scientific understanding of learning and the nature of dogs. I consider myself as much an expert as a consumer and student of ideas that have been honed and consistently stood the test of time. They have also been successfully used in the large industry of animal training for decades. We aim to simplify and distill many of these technical concepts into simple and understandable language coupled with concrete actions one can take to better their dog training skills. And while there is a science to the work of training dogs, there is also a place for art. The perspective of the dog is as important as the desires of the human. We hope to help you deliver on the promise of giving your dog the best life possible and to build lasting trust. This is the perspective from which I filter any information I put out for others to consume.
